Heat and hairstyles don’t mix. Try an easy, beachy style for summertime.
Temperatures have been cruel this summer. Be sweet to yourself by choosing a simple hairstyle with minimal effort.
“Wear tousled waves, a center part, a low ponytail or a simple up-do for summer,” says stylist Casey Martin, who is a believer in fuss-free routines. “A sea salt spray is a must-have for texture and beach waves.”
Martin mixes her own beach wave/sea salt spray using ingredients often found at home:
1 cup hot water (not boiling)
2 tablespoons Epsom salts (for texture)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt (for hold)
1 squirt of light-hold hair gel
1 teaspoon aloe vera gel (for conditioning and shine)
1/2 teaspoon coconut-scented conditioner (for yummy smell)
Optional: 1 drop of Moroccan or argan oil, 1 drop of perfume or scented oil, 1 teaspoon lemon juice or 1 teaspoon vodka for lightening (refrigerate if added)
Put all ingredients in a spray bottle with the cap on and shake until the salts are dissolved. The mixture lasts three to four months. Spray on damp hair and scrunch with a towel for carefree waves. Spray on dry hair for texture.
