(CBS/AP) The actresses attending this year’s Cannes Film Festival must have arrived with a lot of luggage.
On Wednesday, the opening day of the 12-day festival, actresses Diane Kruger, Eva Longoria and Tilda Swinton each made multiple outfit changes and it was only day one.

Kruger, who is a member of the festival’s prestigious jury this year, wore an edgy burgundy cocktail dress with a pleated skirt and black cord-laced straps by Versus by Versace for her fist photo call, and a fancier, more feminine aqua-colored silk draped dress by Giambattista Valli later for the red-carpet premiere of "Moonrise Kingdom."
"This girl knows how to edit herself perfectly," said designer Rachel Roy, who is keeping tabs on the Cannes fashion show from New York. "The transparency and draping is reminiscent of the Jacqueline Kennedy mint green moment, yet modern…Pure elegance."
Swinton, who is in "Moonrise Palace," wore a two-piece skirt and blouse ensemble by Haider Ackermann at the film’s daytime premiere and wore the designer again at the festival’s opening ceremony that night, donning a bronze-colored structured gown from the designer’s Fall 2012 collection.
Longoria chose a frilly Marchesa column gown in blush tulle with a very dramatic ruffled skirt and train for the red carpet and then changed into Alberta Ferretti gown for the opening night dinner.
Jessica Chastain wore a light-pink, scoop-neck gown by Alexander McQueen. Model Eva Herzigova and Frieda Pinto did pink as well, wearing Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Angel respectively. Pinto later changed for the dinner into a black sequin Versace gown.
Lana Del Rey attended the festival’s opening wearing a black, scalloped, strapless Alberta Ferretti gown and carrying a silver Swarovski crystal-encrusted minaudiere.
Some of the men captured the more relaxed vibe of the seaside resort: Bill Murray put on a plaid jacket, and Ewan McGregor paired his navy cotton suit by Marni with white lace-up shoes and a star-print tie
